Precautions

Do not use the device in an environment where other devices are being used and intentionally emit electromagnetic energy in an unprotected manner. Portable and mobile radiofrequency communication equipment can disrupt medical electrical equipment.

The Orthocollator heating device generates, uses, and can emit radioelectric energy. If it is not installed or used properly, it can cause harmful interference with other nearby devices. Reposition or move the receiving device, increase the distance between the equipment, plug the equipment into an outlet on a different circuit than the one to which the other devices are connected.

Do not use accessories other than those from the same range as Orthocollator or recommended by Clinique Lafontaine. The safety of other products has not been established and their use could harm a customer.

If there is a breakage, always replace it with parts authorized by the factory.

• The device temperature is preset at the factory, so it is ready to use. Never set the thermostat to a too high temperature. The thermostat is extremely sensitive and even the slightest adjustment will change the temperature by several degrees. The recommended operating temperature is between 71° and 74°C (160° to 165°F). The water temperature should be checked with a thermometer after each adjustment.

• Always completely cover the Orthocollator (cushions) with water. Fill with water every day. Water evaporates continuously.

Never let the Orthocollator (cushions) dry out.

• Clean the tank periodically following the instructions (see in MAINTENANCE section).

Always replace worn Orthocollators (cushions).

Disconnect the device, remove the Orthocollators (cushions), drain the water, and clean the tank if the device is not in use for a certain period.

Do not move the device while it is filled with hot water. Its overturning could cause burns.

• Always unplug the device before emptying or filling.

Do not retrieve the Orthocollators (cushions) from the tank with bare hands.

Always wrap the Orthocollators (cushions) in a towel or ideally the cover provided for this purpose.

Monitor the cushion application frequently to ensure that the skin does not get too warm.

Do not apply on desensitized skin or in the presence of poor circulation. Do not use directly on cuts, abrasions, or wounds.

Never lie down or sit on the cushion.

Be extremely careful when using hot pads on individuals who cannot communicate.

Some products added to water (such as certain infusions or essences) can damage the components of the appliance, the thermostat, and stainless steel.

Place the Orthocollators (cushions) in the device before filling it with water.

NOTE : Do not turn the rod inside. The Orthocollator heating device operates with a capillary hydraulic thermostat and can remain plugged in to ensure constant availability of the Orthocollator hot cushion.

Maintenance

Maintenance and cleaning

1. The inside of the appliance should be cleaned at least every two weeks using a mildly abrasive bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth or a Scotch-Brite green, blue, or white cleaning pad. Stainless steel wool can be used if absolutely necessary. Make sure your cleaner contains little to no chlorine and ensure that residues are thoroughly rinsed with water.

2. A strong solution of vinegar and water can be used to dissolve deposits, which should be thoroughly rinsed.

3. To clean the exterior, use only a stainless steel detergent and a soft cloth. The use of any other detergent on the appliance's exterior is not recommended. Abrasive detergents and pads can damage the appliance's coating.

This device is made of high-quality stainless steel which, with proper care and maintenance, can easily last a lifetime. Improper treatment could prematurely wear out the stainless steel.

To avoid the risk of rust

1. Do not use bleach or products containing bleach.

2. Do not use paper clips, pins, staples, hangers, etc. in or near the device.

3. Do not clean the device with glass wool or a carbon steel brush.

4. Do not use abrasive detergents that tend to disrupt the varnish grain, especially on the exterior of the device.

5. Remove all deposits from surfaces and internal parts. Deposits are mineral concentrations that allow rust to settle. Deposits on the heating element reduce its efficiency and cause an increase in electricity consumption.

6. If you think your water is hard, you will need to change the water and clean the appliance more often.

Maintenance of Orthocollator cushions

The cushion can be cleaned by brushing it with soap and water. The simplest method to keep the cushion clean is to leave it covered with water.

When the Orthocollator is worn out, the filling will start to seep through the fabric, some areas will empty, and the Orthocollator will no longer retain its heat properly. When it is in this condition, it must be replaced.

NOTE : Orthocollators can be stored for an extended period - wet - in a plastic bag in the freezer.
